Welcome to Nòmada Eco Mountain Retreat

Offering sustainable holidays and retreats completely off grid in the wild mountains of southern Catalunya. We provide guests with the opportunity to slow down, unwind and reconnect with nature.

The finca is set in twelve acres of organic olive, almond and carob groves with a beautifully restored farmhouse dating back to the 1800s.

Nestled in the valley our backdrop is the Cardó Mountains, and we are graced with glorious, ever-changing sun-rises and huge, starry night skies.

You will wake every morning to bird song and fresh mountain air.

This land is a haven for plants and wildlife, and many different species of birds and butterflies are found in the area. Swifts, swallows, warblers and house martins come and nest every summer and  Bonelli’s eagles regularly fly overhead.

This little pocket of southern Catalunya is so rich in diversity and history and there is so much to see and do if you do decide to venture away from your hammock…

You can hike or cycle straight from the door or explore further afield by car.

Local attractions include the mighty Ebro river, the vineyards of Terra Alta or Priorat, the Ebro Delta and the secluded coves of the Costa Daurada.

See our Things to do page for more info.

Sustainability

The finca is completely off grid, relying on solar power for energy and rainwater for washing. We aim for a sustainable way of life that works in harmony with the rhythms of nature.

We provide filtered water and metal drinking bottles for guests eradicating the need for plastic bottles. We also use compostable bin bags, recycled paper and natural cleaning products.

Because we encourage guests to be mindful of their energy and water consumption, we also provide compost bins for veg waste and boxes to sort recycling.

The finca has over 400 productive olive and almond trees, sun-ripened, non-irrigated and free from chemicals. We hand-harvest our olives to produce delicious olive oil; cold-pressed and unfiltered, which is available to sample and purchase.

Our story

I’m Kat, a yoga teacher, massage therapist, mother, wife and lover of good food, laughter and sunshine.

I live here in the mountains with my husband, Tim, our two young boys, Theo and Rudy, and our four-legged friends

Tim spent 20 years in the ski and snowboard industry, has a website design business, and now spends most of his days happily working on the land tending the olive trees.

In our previous life we lived by the sea on the south coast of England.

After many road trips around Spain and years of dreaming and wondering, we knew that at some point we would need to take the plunge and follow our hearts.

Our aim was to find somewhere completely different that we could call home, to live a life with no regrets and to escape the constraints of a ‘regular’ life which was preventing us from spending enough time together.

Both Tim and I spent much of our childhoods outdoors, exploring, independent and free.

Tim grew up in the beautiful Surrey countryside and my childhood was spent in Surrey, Hampshire and also in Spain where some of my family lives. Summers were spent in the mountains and fields, climbing through waterfalls and scrambling over rocks with grazed knees and big smiles…

We had a vision of our children having the same freedom and space, and we wanted to live in a way that was more sustainable, reducing our impact on the environment, teaching our children a different, more simple way of living and most of all we were looking for a way to spend more time together as a family.

After a couple of years of searching, on a day trip to the area, we found our finca: as we drove along the mountain track, my heart was thumping and I knew we were home.

In May 2018 we packed up our lives in England and with our two young boys and pup, we embarked on our adventure.

By September 2019 we had renovated our lovely casita for guests and Nòmada retreat was born.

So far our time here in Catalunya has been filled with joy, challenges and daily gratitude.

Building our business, learning new skills, sharing this beautiful space and meeting so many wonderful people along the way brings us so much happiness.

We hope you love it as much as we do
